Learning how to fish.

I have been getting a lot of emails recently from people asking me some very basic fishing questions.  People have been asking me how to use a spinning feel, what the best fishing knot is and even how to put on a worm on a hook.

These questions surprised me at first.  I could not figure out why all of a sudden I was being asked about fishing.  I like to fish and believe I am above average but by no means an expert.  After some research, I figured out that a few of the early articles I wrote about fishing were ranking towards the front page on Google.  Thanks Google!

Another thing suprised me about the emails I was getting.  They were very basic.  Learning how to fish should be a rite of passage for a kid in my book.  Growing up in the thumb, every kid tried putting a worm on a hook under a bobber to see what they could catch.  I didn't even like to fish as a kid but went out quite a few times.  Man things have changed!

After reading all of the emails I had been getting started to give me an idea.  I am currently in the process of showing my son and daughter how to fish and could easily snap a few pics while we are out.  Why not write a few basic fishing articles?  There doesn't seem to be a lot of basic fishing articles on the web so maybe I can find some new readers and help some people learn about self-sustainability.

The newest perch fishing champ!

If you are new to fishing, stay tuned.  Over the next few weeks, I will be writing a few articles on topics that will help a beginner learn to fish.  If you are a newbie, hopefully the articles will give you the confidence to get out there and enjoy one of my favorite activities.

After you learn how to catch fish, you can research how to fillet one and then how to grow some potatoes to make a meal of homemade potatoes and fish caught by your hands!  Trust me, after you experience a meal like that you will be hooked on living off the land.
